"480 Minutes" - Twilight of The Twenty Tens

This is the twilight of twenty-tens, then end of another year and decade and I gotta say it's been the shittiest decade I've experienced so far. One of the few things that hasn't sucked as been the music, thank gnocchi.

We are trying to prepare for our year-end best-music show and lists of top music, so there will be no debuts in the playlist today or next week. The week after that (12/20) will be all about the best music of 2019, which is always a lot of fun. Last year I learned that my favorite song on the 2018 Parquet Courts album differed from some passionate and vocal listener's favorite song on that Parquet Courts album. I'm sure the same will be true this year of songs by Dry Cleaning, Ezra Furman, Fontaines D.C., Mattiel, Pip Blom, Plague Vendor, Squid, and others.

Today's show will be live-hosted so tune in, turn on, and join us in the chat room. Be prepared for brain farts, mispronounced non-English words (and maybe some English ones, too), an instance or two of "Ted" air, and all those fun things that happen on live radio.

Listener Pete in Chicago came up with an interesting exercise as the year of our orzo 2020 approaches: ask listeners to pick their top 10 favorite BAGeL Radio songs of the 2010s. To participate, submit your list as a comment on the re-Tweet of the Tweet below or in the comments below this 480M post on Facebook. If you have (wisely) excised yourself from those social media cesspools, you can comment just below this post on our site or e-mail your list to ted (at) somafm (dot) com.

480 Minutes is live-hosted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time and is followed by 2 hours of uninterrupted music. The show is then rebroadcast in it's entirety beginning at 7 p.m., then again on Saturday at 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., and one final time on Sunday at 1 a.m., followed by a rebroadcast of this week's Fuzzy Road radio show at 11 a.m. and then a couple of old 480 Minutes episodes from this week in past years, making for hosted shows all weekend long.
For help with remembering when the live-hosted shows and re-runs air, check out the program schedule (which you can import into your favorite calendar program!) embedded here:

Tune in! somafm.com/bagel, plus SomaFM channels are available on many set top boxes and home audio systems as well as by voice command on many smart speakers.  Also, iOS users can also take advantage of the Shortcuts app to create a home screen button that will launch BAGeL Radio via a single touch or a simple Siri voice command. Open Shortcuts; search for SomaFM; select BAGeL Radio; unselect the "show when run" toggle to avoid the extra dialog box; give the shortcut a name; bingo!
