"480 Minutes" - Redefining Easter, Darkly

First I'd like to apologize for the technical difficulties yesterday. As reported by SomaFM head honcho Rusty, a brief power interruption at our co-location lead to a series of cascading failures that was ultimately not to hard to fix, but untangling what the trigger and initial failures were was time-consuming.

In other news, this week New York City became the current global epicenter for COVID-19 infections, and Elmhurst Hospital in Queens (about 3 miles from BAGeL HQ) seems to be the current epicenter of the epicenter. Here we go, folks. The "hoax" is becoming all-too real as even Republican governors begin pushing back at the ridiculous arrogant know-nothing in the Oval Office's inability to grasp even the rudiments of what is happening on his watch.

At the same time a new strain of Trump sycophants I call Republighouls are talking about "re-opening the country" just in time for everyone pack into churches on Easter Sunday. This of course, would be every epidemiologist's nightmare, but #Cult45 is lapping it up. Celebrating the resurrection by causing more death is incredibly dark even in these very dark times.

Meanwhile, IMPOTUS was on Hannity last night. The first thing he did was fellate the host by telling his millions of viewers that he postponed a scheduled phone call with President Xi of China to be on his show. The *president bragging about his decision to prioritize propaganda over speaking with a fellow world leader during a global crisis -- another convincing bit of evidence that he is worthy of both impeachment and being deemed incompetent for office under the 25th Amendment.

The Orange Menace then went on to threaten that he may not send help to states whose governors have criticized him, like Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. I really hope Michigan was listening. Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin, too, which all border Michigan. This virus doesn't care about our silly "Welcome to the great state of" signs. If the people of Michigan are left without sufficient resources to treat the infected the virus will spread even more widely, and infected Michiganders will surely infect their neighbors to the south and west, not to mention their Canadian border neighbors to the north and east.

About 10 million Americans live in Michigan, 12 million in Ohio, 7 million in Indiana, and 6 million in Wisconsin, and about 3 million Canadians live in nearby Toronto.

Oh, and by the way, the so-called president of the United States -- who has been on daily conference calls with governors including yesterday -- could not recall the name of the governor he was taunting/threatening, referring instead to "the young, a woman governor, you know who I'm talking about, from Michigan."

Coming full circle to the New York situation, *president GenuflectToMeOrDie also questioned Governor Cuomo of NY's call for more equipment saying, "I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators."  If Merriam-Webster, The Oxford English Dictionary, Macmillan Dictionary, Encyclopedia Britannica, and Dictionary.com don't have a photo of Trump next to their entries for the Dunning–Kruger effect already they really need to get on that.

Today's show will be live-hosted from 9am-5pm Eastern U.S. Time and feature new music by Baxter Dury (London, England, @baxterdury), Catholic Action (Glasgow, Scotland, @_catholicaction), Deeper (Chicago, IL, @deeperchi), Gold Cage (Los Angeles, CA, @higoldcage), Juana Molina (Buenos Aires, Argentina, @soyjuanamolina), and Waxahatchee (Philadelphia, PA via AL, @k_crutchfield).

The marathon 8-hour show is followed by 2 hours of uninterrupted music and is then rebroadcast in its entirety beginning at 7 p.m. Friday,  5 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, and one final time at 1 a.m. on Sunday. That is followed by a rebroadcast of a Fuzzy Road radio show at 11 a.m. and then a couple of old 480 Minutes episodes from this week in past years, making for hosted shows all weekend long.

Tune in and connect with listeners in the Slack chat room. Hanging out and talking with real humans in a virtual conference room is better than not hanging out and talking with other humans.
