Many of you know that Cloud Cult's 2005 album ADVICE FROM THE HAPPY HIPPOPOTAMUS -- despite that awful title and some seriously creepy (and not in a good way) album art -- is one of my favorite albums of the decade so far. The follow-up is here, it is called THE MEANING OF 8, and while I can't determine how it compares with HIPPO, I am already in love with it after just two listens. Be prepared for much Cloud Cult today -- it's albums like this that make it absolutely necessary to host an 8-hour weekly program.Then we have The Cobbs, a Philadelphia band that used to go by the name Ty Cobb. They have an amazing new album out called SING THE DEATHCAPADES...and they are not signed.
Have I mentioned the Chris Garneau record? Back in September, based only on hearing two demos, I dragged Misty all the way to the west side of Manhattan (99.45% of CMJ takes place on the east side) to see Garneau. We both agreed that it was worth the trip, and so is the gorgeous, just released album.
