Mikal Cronin (left) and band at Webster Hall, NYC, 12/10/13
So I've been working at whittling down and shaping up the year-end best music lists here at BAGeL Radio, but they are not quite ready.  Between the pinball playoffs (we lost), and a good friend leaving town (I lost), circumstances haven't been quite right for this task.  The lists will be ready for next week's  (12/20) episode of 480 Minutes, and that show is always my favorite show of the year.

That said, this week should be fun, too -- as is my annual habit, I have not listened to anything new since Thanksgiving. I take a couple of weeks away from new stuff, and other things listened to this year, to cleanse the palette by only listening to The Beatles for a time.  I find it resets expectations about what makes a great song, which in turn helps me to reevaluate the thousand-plus new songs we aired for you this year.

We have not gotten many suggestions for a name for our upcoming new fuzzed-out space rock show.  The as-yet-unnamed new show will be back in development once the year-end show has been prepared and performed, and will debut in January.  If you have suggestions for names, let us know!

Today's 480 Minutes (every Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Eastern Time) episode will debut new songs by absolutely no one.  That said, there are about 30 songs we'll play today that have only been on the air for a week or two, so there's just nothing brand spanking new.

Requests will be taken and honored more often than usual today (due to the space freed up by having nothing to debut) during the live-hosted hours via e-mail and IM and I'm getting better at responding to Tweets in something resembling real time, so if that's your preferred mode of communication, go for it:

e-mail: ted(at)
Yahoo IM/GoogleTalk: bagelradio
AOL/iChat: bagelradiolive
Twitter: @bagelradio

Please Tweet about the artists you hear on 480 Minutes today.

Let them know you heard them on BAGeL Radio/SomaFM!
