480 Minutes - Kevin Haskins Interview

Hey there. So this week I got to: see my favorite album of the year (Wide Awake! by Parquet Courts) performed on a roof deck at dusk with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop; see Robert Plant performing within walking distance from my house (I had to go -- he'd have been gutted had I not made the minimal effort required); interview Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus, Tone on Tail, Love andRockets, and Poptone. It's been a good week. Well, except for whole SCROTUS legitimizing one of the world's most brutal dictators, and also all of the traumatized children being separated from their parents ("we're just taking them to bathe") and put into concentration camps by ICE agents who are "just following orders" in my name. That's not so good.

Just as I know that the video section below featuring nothing but Parquet Courts makes it look like no other albums matter right now besides their new one, Wide Awake!, so sitting congressman Steve King (R-Iowhitesupremacist) knows that retweeting virulently anti-semitic self-described Nazi sympathizers means he agrees with virulently anti-semitic self-described Nazi sympathizers...and not just the one virulently anti-semitic self-described Nazi sympathizer he retweeted and refused to delete this week.

Next, the racist investigating "black identity extremist groups" even though at a hearing he could not for the life of him identify a single one, Attorney General of the United States Jeff Sessions, used a biblical quote to justify the enforcement of a policy to punish migrant families by separating children from their parents. He employed the same biblical quote used often by white Americans 150 years ago to justify slavery. Think about that for a moment.

In other news, the live-hosted portion of today's 480 Minutes show may be a bit short because I have to run to see The Magnetic Fields perform the first half of 50 Song Memoir at The Apollo Theatre.  With that in mind the last hour of the show will likely be focused around the aforementioned interview with Kevin Haskins.

Today's BAGeL Radio debuts will include new music today from Automatic (Los Angeles, CA),  Flasher (Washington D.C.), gobbinjr (Brooklyn, NY, @gobbinjr420), IDLES (Bristol, England, @IdlesBand), Johnny Marr (Manchester, England, @Johnny_Marr), Julian (Washington D.C., @juliandc), Menace Beach (Leeds, England, @menace_beach), S.M. Wolf (Indianapolis, IN, @SMWolfMusic), and Shannon Shaw (sans The Clams, Oakland, CA, @shanandtheclams).

The show is live-hosted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. (probably more like 4 p.m. today) Eastern U.S. Time and is followed by 2 hours of uninterrupted music.  The show is then rebroadcast in it's entirety beginning at 7 p.m., then again on Saturday at 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., and one final time on Sunday at 1 a.m., followed by a rebroadcast of this week's Fuzzy Road radio show at 11 a.m. and then a couple of old episodes of 480 Minutes from this week during years gone by, making for hosted shows all weekend long.
