We Be Flooded

As you may have heard NYC was pummeled by Ida-related rain which caused New York City's first Flash Flood Emergency (aka lots of flooding in quick-strike fashion. Queens was hit particularly hard registering 11 of the 13 city fatalities.

My basement studio went from dry to holding more than 3 feet of water in under a half hour. The water line on the outside of the building was an Iggy Pop song.

It was bonkers -- cars floating by, whitecaps cascading down driveways...it was bonkers and I never want to experience that again (although I know that this "first flash flood" is not  a once-in-a-lifetme event, it's the new Climate Changed and will only get worse.

Anyway,  the backup stream has been running for about 28 hours now and will continue to do so as we clean up from this unfathomable-for-these-parts disaster.

Wednesday night was spent saving what could be saved in the 20-30 minutes before the water inside had submerged the wall electrical outlets. Thursday was spent assessing the damage, packing up and discarding damaged equipment, artwork, records, and other media…that was rough, and Friday will be as well.

Sadly/obviously this has left me no time to prepare for a show and, truth be told, at the moment there is no studio from which to host a show or even broadcast the way BAGeL Radio normally does, hence the extended back-up stream time.

All of this is to say there will be no 480 Minutes or reruns this weekend.

My soggiest apologies. I'll try to make it up to you.

Planned 480 Minutes Rerun

Today will be the first 480 Minutes rerun since January...in The Before Times...and just the second of 2020. We aren't happy about it, either, but it cannot be helped.

Instead we will run a few recent shows through Sunday morning, followed by a Fuzzy Road radio show rerun at 11 a.m. Sunday, followed by two earlier episodes of 480 Minutes at 1 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Thanksgiving Weekend Is Rerun Weekend!

The Friday after Thanksgiving here in the U.S. is a light day for listenership as most Americans are not at work and many are traveling, so as always we have lined up some reruns for your enjoyment.

The idea for the Friday and Saturday episodes is a "catch-up-on-2019" series of shows from throughout this year, then on Sunday we have a couple of moldy old time-capsule-type episodes from years past.

Planned Rerun

This week 480 Minutes will be a planned rerun as your host lazes about on a Friday for the first time since May before heading up to da Bronx to watch a hungover bunch of 2019 American League Eastern Division Champion New York Yankees take the field against a very young and talented and likely not hungover Toronto Blue Jays.

The Friday-Sunday morning reruns will be recent shows from 8/16, 8/23, 8/30, 9/6, and 9/13/19. Those will be followed by our regular Sunday reruns starting with this week's Fuzzy Road radio show, our Tuesday live-hosted psych and garage rock specialty show at 11 a.m. The rerun weekend continues at 1 p.m. on Sunday with the oldest 480 Minutes playlist we've been able to excavate and patch back together (from 9/21/06), followed by an episode from 9/22/07 beginning at 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Planned Fuzzy Rerun

Part of the west coast SomaFM crew is in town this week and the east Coast SomaFM crew is meeting up with them for lunch in the Dumb Tower today, so the Fuzzy Road radio show will be a planned rerun this week. The reun is from May 2014, so very early days of the Fuzzy road.  Enjoy!

Planned Rerun

This week 480 Minutes will be a planned rerun as your host busies himself with buzzers, bells, targets, spinners, ramps, loops, saucers, and scoops along with some of the top-ranked pinball players in the world at the 2019 New York City Pinball Championships tournament. The finals will be live-streamed, the prize money is better than a kick in the head, and there are actual bookies taking bets on players  (hint: do not bet on me) as the resurgence of this barroom and basement hobby continues to pick up steam. By next year we’ll be on SportsCenter.

Planned Rerun (ancient episode!)

Today will be our first planned 480 Minutes rerun since Thanksgiving 2018, and it is a doozy -- from February 2007, this episode is the oldest show we've ever rebroadcast. It took hours of work to piece it all together due to years of files moving from hard drive to hard drive, software to software, computer to computer, and location to location, sometimes being replaced along the way with higher bit rate files or remastered files from re-releases. Hopefully you will find the effort worthwhile.  Many of you will hear for the first time how unprofessional your host sounded 12 years ago and appreciate that your host sounds a nearly noticeable tad less unprofessional these days.

Please enjoy the recent reruns we have lined up for you beginning Friday 2/22 at 9 a.m. ET, running all the way through Monday morning. No idea which shows will follow the one from the aughts, but they will likely be from more recent Februarys past.
