"480 Minutes" 5/4/07

Apologies to everyone who tuned in last week for the remote poolside edition of "480 Minutes" that never happened. My old TiBook is now out of commission, so I will not be able to broadcast remotely or DJ out until I can find a suitable replacement.

San Francisco listeners: this morning (May 4), my friend Rusty Hodge of SomaFM will be meeting with House Speaker Pelosi's office about H.R.2060 and it would be great if residents of San Francisco (her district) would call her Washington, DC office at (202) 225-4965 to express your support for H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act. Let them know that independent internet radio is important to you. The best time to call is between 6am - 10am Pacific Time for the most impact.

Here's an idea of what to say:
I am a constituent and I'm calling to ask Speaker Pelosi to save Internet radio by supporting H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act. The Copyright Royalty Board's decision to increase royalty rates for webcasters is going to force my favorite internet stations - like San Francisco based BAGeL Radio and SomaFM - to go out of business and I do NOT want that to happen. Please tell Speaker Pelosi to support H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
It should only take a minute to do this, and it is extremely important for the survival of independent internet radio.

Listeners outside of SF please feel free to call your representatives about H.R. 2060 as well -- so far the bill has 35 co-sponsors, but we need over 100. Thank you.

Today's bumper crop of 50+ new songs includes music by Get Him Eat Him, Hallelujah The Hills, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Girl In A Coma, Acute, Palomar, The Clientele, Through The Sparks, Elliott Smith (new 24-song posthumous release), The Electric Soft Parade, Cat-A-Tac, Matt Lutz, The Teeth, Eloise, The Boggs, Pop Levi, The Phoenix Foundation, Midnight Movies, Shapes And Sizes, Ray's Vast Basement, Great Northern, and Volunteer Pioneer.

Please tune in for the weekly marathon that is "480 Minutes" today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time. You can request songs and stuff via:

We may have a ticket giveaway to the SF International Film Festival screening of Notes to a Toon Underground, featuring 15 animated films from 1912-2005 accompanied by music performed live by musicians including Jason Lytle (of Grandaddy), Jamie Stewart (of Xiu Xiu), Tommy Guerrero, and Monte Vallier (of The Caseworker). The SFIFF hasn't given me specifics yet, hence the uncertainty about free tickets.
