"480 Minutes" - New PJ Harvey, Bright Eyes, Wire

While in New York last week I found an actual Sony Walkman cassette player hiding behind my parents' stereo. They weren't using it, so I borrowed it for a project: to play and digitize tapes of me DJing over 20 years ago in London at a club called Totally Wired. The project has been so much fun -- some of the songs that I hadn't heard in 20 years I have recognized instantly, within a note or two. Others, not so much. Funny how the brain/memory works. Anyway, the songs I've been rediscovering informed much of the playlist when I DJed at the Rumble this week. Basically I challenged myself to do a set alternating between one song that was released in the past 12 months followed by a song from those cassettes.

I won't be able to do that today because there is too much new stuff to get to, but some Totally Wired classics will be sprinkled in throughout the show today.
