We had another mass shooting here in the U.S. yesterday. The insanity continues unabated, protected by firearms fetishists and craven politicians. It's hard to fathom but in some ways our gun laws have become less restrictive since 26 innocents were murdered at an elementary school in Newtown, CT in 2012.
This photo is of members of the police force of Umpqua, Oregon, where the latest massage occurred. According to the year 2000 census Umpqua a population of 112, and the most recent number I could find was just over 500:
Do these guys look like police to you? Do those weapons seem appropriate for a town of 500? That the absurd militarization on display here is in any way OK more than implies that gun insanity in the U.S. goes beyond the deranged gunmen.
In other news...today marks the return of the female-fronted or all-female band domination we saw earlier this year. Six of the nine new records making their BAGeL Radio debuts today fit that description. Take that, Todd Akin!
Today's all-new 480 Minutes show will feature new music by Coke Weed (Boston, MA/Bar Harbor, ME, @cokeweedrockers), Dilly Dally (Toronto, Canada, @DillyDallyTO), The Ghost Ease (Portland, OR/Seattle, WA, @The_Ghost_Ease), Palehound (Allston, MA, @palehound), Peaches (Berlin, Germany, @Peaches), Protomartyr (Detroit, MI), Silversun Pickups (Los Angeles, CA, @SSPU), U.S. Girls (Philadelphia, PA, @YouSGirls), and Wavves (Los Angeles, CA, @WavvesWavves).
