"480 Minutes" - Joey and Bowie

A company with $11B in profits which paid no federal taxes the last two years just backed out of a deal to build it's second headquarters in Queens. The deal was apparently made by the mayor and governor of New York (city and state, respectively) without input from local leaders and residents, some of whom think it's obscene to woo a company so profitable with further tax breaks. Others object to the company's anti-union activities and stories of warehouse workers not being allowed bathroom breaks. I agreed with all of those points and question the viability of moving tens of thousands of new people and workers into an area of already underserved by public transit, roads, grocery stores, and other non-trivial necessary infrastructure. Personally, I'm glad to not have to share my borough with the insatiable, retail-swallowing behemoth, and it's been fun watching local  conservative-leaning folks immediately blame socialism, and one freshman congresswoman in particular, for this great tragedy.

Today's 480 Minutes show will feature new releases by Bloodshot Bill (Montreal, Canada), Bob Mould (Berlin, Germany, @bobmouldmusic), Ernest Moon (Liverpool, England), Ladytron (Liverpool, England, @ladytronmusic), Panda Bear (Lisbon, Portugal, @pandabear), Pip Blom (Amsterdam, The Netherlands, @pipblom), Piroshka (London, England, @piroshkaband), and Unloved (Los Angeles, CA, @weareunloved).

To the ForeverGoths out there (you know who you are!), take heart in knowing that there's been an uptick in the gloomy gothy stuff we're receiving lately. Some of it was pretty good, including White Lies and Chasms, however we have not added any songs from either record as yet.

480 Minutes is live-hosted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time and is followed by 2 hours of uninterrupted music.  The show is then rebroadcast in it's entirety beginning at 7 p.m., then again on Saturday at 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., and one final time on Sunday at 1 a.m., followed by a rebroadcast of this week's Fuzzy Road radio show at 11 a.m. and then a couple of old 480 Minutes episodes from this week in past years, so there will be hosted shows all weekend long.

We may cobble together a Joey and Bowie set in honor of this 1978 photo:
