Last week I referred to the some Republican governors of states being overrun by the delta variant as "COVID Boosters." I'm afraid that Texas Governor Greg Abbott may have taken my little joke too seriously -- he went ahead and got himself infected. Can you imagine?
These states have massive numbers of COVID cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. For weeks now we've witnesses scenes of COVID patients (many unvaccinated because they don't trust science...until they can't breathe) who should be in Intensive Care Units but instead find themselves gasping for breath on hospital hallway floors or in makeshift basement parking lot field hospitals. The actual ICUs can't take them in because their beds are all full thanks in large part to the counterfactual policies and deadly idiotic attitudes of their governors and favorite Fox News "personalities" who -- despite polluting public discourse with UV HyrdoCloroxoquine Guy-like clouds of manufactured doubt and confusion -- are all vaccinated.
As in-person learning returns these same governors are trying to prevent school boards & districts in their states from issuing mask mandates to help keep their kids, teachers, and school support staff safe. Some have gone so far as to forbid remote learning. Meanwhile today one middle school in Williamson County, Tennessee is already burning an "inclement weather day" because 187 of their 560 enrolled students were out sick yesterday, and 23 of the 77 faculty and staff will be out today due to illness. In mid-August. Their school year just started.
Oh, and a Y'all Qaeda "tourist" caused a bit of a fuss at the Capitol yesterday threatening to blow up his monster truck full of explosives if the duly elected president of the United States of America didn't step down and hand the reins back to the disgraced twice impeached serial philanderer insurrection booster guy who thought that it would be a good idea to get Americans' hopes up that they would be praying indoors on packed pews come Easter Sunday. 2020. Way to set expectations, you stable genius, you.
