I hope that everyone is enjoying their holiday season despite the extremely miserable political climate and the frighteningly extreme actual climate.

Tomorrow night marks the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Sunday marks Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere: happy (almost) winter and (almost) summer, respectively.

Today is the day we go all in on 2019 -- tune in to BAGeL Radio today to hear our top ~200 songs of 2019 -- today's playlist will be all 2019 music all day (with a couple of stragglers released too late in 2018 to be included in our last year-end show).

Erroneously advertised all week as beginning at 10 a.m., the top songs of the year countdown will begin with song #50 at 11 a.m. Eastern U.S. Time. We should reach the top 10 at around 1:30 p.m. and finish up around 2:00 p.m. The rest of the show will consist of our 150 or so other favorite songs of the year including our favorite cover versions, favorite songs not sung in English, and our top political songs of the year sprinkled throughout.

For the year-end best-of edition of 480 Minutes the show is extended to a 12-hour run-time. That means that the rebroadcasts will begin 2 hours later than usual and start up again every 12 hours over the weekend (9 p.m., 9 a.m., 9 p.m., and so on, and so on, and so on...). Today is the season finalé of 480 Minutes, now in it's 13th year.

All week I've been getting e-mails and IMs and Facebook messages telling me there's no new 480 Minutes show this week.  Who started that rumor?  Was it you, Lopez?  I bet it was Lopez.  Anyway, I am here to tell you that was a rumor, nothing more.  There is indeed a new edition of our Friday live show today.

I must admit that the un-heard pile of new submissions has grown to an unsightly size since Thanksgiving, and I have done nothing to keep a thin layer of dust from forming over it.  I will have to get started on that at some point...but not today!

Next week's show will indeed be a rerun -- in fact, next weekend will consist of our 6 most recent year-end best-of shows.  All times Eastern U.S.:

Hopefully FCC Chair Ajit Pai and his friends at Verizon and The Daily Caller are too busy celebrating their great victory to be bothered to block our stream. Their gift to the mega-profitable highly-despised telecoms in the form of the FCC's attempt to repeal Net Neutrality rules is poison to an even higher percentage of Americans than the GOP tax scam.  It will be interesting to see if Republicans move ahead with both very unpopular moves, and if so, if it will cost them at the polls.  Giving Verizon, Spectrum, Comcast et al more power over what we can access over the internet is a tough sell, especially when the right wing disinformation apparatus is more focused on trying to smear as a traitor one Robert Mueller, a former U.S. rifle platoon Commander honored for his service in Vietnam with, amongst others, the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", Purple Heart Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals with Combat "V", Combat Action Ribbon, and National Defense Service Medal.

The show  will be rebroadcast tonight (Friday) starting around 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and twice on Saturday 12/16 (9 a.m. and 9 p.m.).  The Fuzzy Road rerun will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by the first of two year-end/best-of editions of 480 Minutes from previous years.

The process of pouring over play counts, reviewing, weighting, playlisting, re-weighting, starting all over again, and checking everything twice went relatively smoothly until listeners started sending in their lists, reminding me of things I'd glossed over (thanks a lot, guys!).  Regardless of how thorough I've been, there are always oversights and omissions, and I have no doubt that those will be pointed out! 

Hopefully the show will remind you of and/or introduce you to artist you are inspired to delve into more deeply.  Sharing with you the best music of the year is so much fun that it kinda makes it worth all of the work! Tune in!

It only took a rigged election, a slaughter or 17 in Syria, the loss of too many music icons to recount, the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, and an ongoing fascist attempt to wrest control of North Carolina from it's duly elected new Governor, but after all that we have finally reached the year-end top music show!

Tune in to BAGeL Radio today to hear our top 200 songs of 2016 -- today's playlist will be all 2016 music all day (except for a couple of things that were released too late in 2015 to make our previous year-end lists).

As always our Top Songs of the year countdown will begin with song #50 at 10 a.m. (the countdown will reach the top 10 around 12:30 p.m. and finish up around 1:00 p.m., depending on the song lengths and the amount of gabbing done by the exceptionally sleep-deprivation addled mind of your host), and the rest of the show will consist of our 150 or so other favorite songs of the year.

What's atypical about the year-end best-of show is during the extended 12-hour run-time, no requests are taken, and the rebroadcasts will begin 2 hours later than usual.
