"480 Minutes" featuring new Dressy Bessy, Secret Machines

The Treasure Island Music Festival is just a week away now -- Saturday 9/20 and Sunday 9/21. TIMF is a 2-day music festival in the middle of the San Francisco Bay (literally), and we've got pairs of tickets for the entire festival to give away. Each pair is a $230 value, so tune in and listen closely during today's show for your chance to win Treasure Island Music Festival tickets.

The lineup includes BAGeL Radio faves Okkervil River, TV On The Radio, Vampire Weekend, The Kills, Foals, CSS, John Vanderslice, Loquat, The Morning Benders, Port O'Brien, and The Raconteurs. When you hear those bands during "480 Minutes" today, get in touch (contact info below) and your name will become eligible to win. All entrants' names will be scribbled onto pieces of paper, folded up, and tossed into a hat. Winners names will be drawn from the hat at 2pm Pacific Time, and all entries need to be in by 12 noon.

New music today will include songs by Dressy Bessy (Denver, CO), Brown Shoe (Folsom, CA), Dungen (Vastergotland, Sweden), Grampall Jookabox (Indianapolis, IN), Dylan Champagne (Oakland, CA), Miniature Tigers (Phoenix, AZ), Jared Mees & The Grown Children (Portland, OR), The Mojomatics (Venice, Italy), Marianne Dissard (Tucson, AZ), Mother Mother (Vancouver, Canada), Noah And The Whale (London, England), Portugal. The Man (Wasilla, AK), The Secret Machines (New York, NY), Smile Smile (Dallas, TX), and These United States (Lexington, KY).

Please tune in to "480 Minutes" today and every Friday. The show runs live from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, is rebroadcast starting at 8 p.m., then twice more on Saturday. On Saturday night at midnight we return to regular BAGeL Radio programming.

Next week's show will feature and afternoon visit by The Grey Race from Brooklyn, NY. I need to ask them to bring me a jar of my favorite Brooklyn mustard.

News: There's a reason Karl Rove has been keeping his candidates from talking with the press -- they are lousy at it! Even when simply sticking to the same canned answers they've been fed in their scripted speeches they look uncomfortable and unconvincing. Truly embarrassing performances by both yesterday.

Still, there are Americans out there who believe recycled, discredited rumors about "reparations" that have been floating against black politicians for decades. These closet racists are going to accept those lies as truth and use them as an excuse to vote for the old white guy who wants to continue the Bush policies that have decimated the country from coast to coast.
