It's cold (30s F), and we're expecting snow here in NYC tomorrow, so I guess winter has finally come. Of course, two days ago the temperature was over 60 degrees F, so who knows? Certainly not your humble narrator...

It's December. December! The greatest month of all!
The award-winning 480 Minutes show today will feature NO new songs! Never fear, we are not switching formats, we are not about to start playing both kinds of music (country AND western, duh!), this "no new additions" thing happens every year as the calendar turns to December. After Thanksgiving new submissions are allowed to pile up while we do our annual Beatles cleanse (listening to Beatles-only for a week or two) before embarking on the annual project of reviewing, ranking,
re-ranking, and re-re-ranking the hundreds of songs added to rotation in the past year. That project culminates with our year-end best-of 2017 480 Minutes show which will happen this year on Friday 12/15.

I unintentionally went a week without an adult beverage after discovering and downing copious amounts of rooibos tea. I wrote a jokey post on Facebook about it, expecting jokey replies, and along with several of those I got a serious one from a nutritionist friend that now has me worried I may have scurvy. Thanks for playing!
Things have been crazy busy here at BAGeL HQ of late, hence the Fuzzy Road re-runs on recent Tuesdays. Thus far the madness has not affected 480 Minutes, but please note that next week (11/24) will be a re-run as is always the case on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
I managed to listen to everything submitted this week, but based on the very very small number of new playlist additions it's possible I had a bit less patience than usual in the process. One strong submission arrived as low bit rate files, so now we wait for an air play-quality submission of Sydney, Australia band Death Bells record, which will have to wait a minimum of two weeks to get into rotation instead of today. Sad.
Speaking of today the award-winning 480 Minutes show today will feature new songs by The Bad Signs (@thebadsignsband), Gestures (Stockholm, Sweden), and The Zephyr Bones (Barcelona, Spain, @thezephyrbones).

In BAGeL Radio news, today will be 480 Minutes episode #43 of 2017. It's only week 45! 95.6%! It's been a banner year for Friday live broadcasts!
In less uplifting news, following this weeks elections, Sean Hannity spent 5 seconds of his hour-long show talking about those elections. Like the "cheeseburger emoji controversy" that trumped the breaking "Manafort And Gates Arrested" news last week, FOX News insists on not reporting actual news. These instances shed light on why it is that their viewers buy the notion that other news is "fake news" -- to them, reality is The Great Unknown.
And now Republican politicians are twisting themselves into knots defending former judge and current senate candidate (senate candidate!) and always bible-thumping Roy Moore's right to lure a 14-year old girl to his lair, have her undress for him, and then manipulate the child into touching his erection. Even if these allegations turn out to be false...the justifications (i.e. Mary was a teen and Joseph was an adult) will remain ignominious statements in support of predator pedophiles.
Today the award-winning 480 Minutes show today will feature new songs by Equinox (England, @SoundsOfEquinox), Fever Ray (Stockholm, Sweden, @feverray), Fits (Brooklyn, NY, @hahafits), Goat Girl (London, England), Naked Giants (Seattle, WA, @nakedgiants), Spinning Coin (Glasgow, Scotland, @spinning_coin), and Wild Beasts (Kendal, England, @WildBeasts).

There is a traceable thread which connects "trickle down economics" to "conversion therapy" to "birtherism" to "Obama is coming to take your guns" to "death panels" to "but her e-mails/never mind our e-mails" to "Pizzagate" to "millions of illegal voters," but I have to hand it to the wing nuts currently repeating the new lie of the right: it was Hillary Clinton, not the Trump campaign, which colluded with Russia to torpedo...Hillary Clinton. It takes a voluntary dismissal of logic to swallow, let alone regurgitate, something that plainly inane and obviously false. In a way, it's kind of impressive.
It takes a lot of self-deception and willful ignorance to support a guy who hires a bartender, a cabana boy, a Meineke muffler salesman, and what appear to be multiple foreign agents (Manafort, Flynn) to work for his campaign and/or administration. Sticking with him, and the party pushing such a clearly absurd narrative, makes one complicit in everything they do, including "tax reform" that benefits the wealthy the most while adversely affecting an issue (the deficit) they've been railing loudly against since...well, since a Democrat returned to the White House in 2008. Suddenly not only is deficit reduction not a priority, they are gleefully cutting taxes AND raising the military budget without raising revenues which will necessarily vastly increase the deficit. There's a whole lot of misdirection going on.
In less controversial news, today the award-winning 480 Minutes show today will feature new songs by Autobahn (Leeds, England, @autobahnmusik), Daniele Luppi and Parquet Courts (Italy/Brooklyn), Hookworms (Leeds, England, @hookworms), Scent (no clue), and Superet (Los Angeles, CA, @superetiscoming).

"Yeah we did it. Yeah we lied each time we said we didn’t do it before now. What are you going to do about it?" -Team Trump
"Benghazi! Lock her up! Guns for all! Build that wall! Repeal and replace...wait, Obummer just took away my healthcare subsidy and his tax reform plan gives billionaires billions in tax breaks and nothing to 98.8% of Americans? He was the worst president ever!" - The Trumped

The President of the United States of America is devoid of humanity, and the man being counted on to keep him in line this week morphed into the new Sean Spicer. One could not write this actual history as fiction and get it published.

In case you missed it, this week the So-Called Ruler of the United States called the free press "frankly disgusting." For all the years of my life, including when I was in journalism school, I thought the free press was a pillar of democracy. What would we do without this guy revealing the real pillars of democracy: racism, bullying, sexism, and most of all, fealty to the king.
Meanwhile after multiple failures to get anything of substance done, Cheeto has rediscovered the power of the pen, issuing another executive order, a device he often Tweeted unkindly about when President Obama used it, including thusly: “We have a president that can't get anything done so he just keeps signing executive orders all over the place.”
The Hate Pumpkin's most recent executive order allows people to sign up with unregulated groups for bare-bones health plans. Of course, those people won't be allowed sign up for off-brand Band Aids if they have pre-existing conditions. If people who sign up for ScrotusCare™ actually need healthcare for something serious they are going to either (a) face HUGE out-of-pocket costs or (b) show up at emergency rooms for medical care -- you know, the way things used to be before the ACA mandated reasonable basic minimum care. If as expected many young people opt for these useless but cheap plans, that will take a large chunk of the healthiest Americans out of the general risk pool, which will then contain a higher percentage of older, sicker people, meaning higher insurance premiums for just about everyone. ScrotusCare also scraps subsidies to health insurance companies that help pay out-of-pocket costs for low-income people. Well done, GOP, it looks like your idiotic, uniformed, noxious crusade to undermine Obamacare will manage to screw over yourselves, the poor, and the rest of us...just so you could undo something positive The Black Guy did. Bravo!
Today the award-winning 480 Minutes show today will feature new songs by Acid Tongue (NYC, LA, Seattle, @acidtongue), Camille (Paris, France), Chastity (Whitby, Ontario, Canada, @chastitysongs), Grooms (Brooklyn, NY, @groomsband), LKFFCT (Montclair, NJ, @LKFFCT), Makthaverskan (Gothenburg, Sweden, @makthaverskan69), Melanie De Biasio (Brussels, Belgium, @melaniedebiasio), Melkbelly (Chicago, IL, @melkbelly), and Tracy Bryant (Los Angeles, CA, @tracybryantca).

This week the So-Called Ruler of the United States called 3.5 million Americans who had just seen their island decimated by a massive hurricane lazy and looking for a hand out, suggested said hurricane wasn't a "real catastrophe" (which, in the context of him calling any and all less-than-complimentary facts about him "fake news" makes a perverse kind of sense), and practiced his set shot by tossing rolls of paper towels at survivors.
Meanwhile in Las Vegas 59 country music fans were murdered and more than 500 injured by a country music fan/ammosexual and his guns. Why do we know that he was a country music fan? Because far of being vilified as an anti-American terrorist, thusfar he's been eulogized.
The monster killed 59 innocent people and could have killed far more, but I have yet to see our politicians, mainstream media, or anyone, really, refer to him as anti-American. That says a lot about how Americans see themselves and our country.
The good news is we are finally starting to see more than a trickle of resistance from artists. We've already played a handful of pointed protest songs by Last Quokka, Juliana Hatfield, American Anymen, and Shane Michael Vidauri, and this week alone received protest songs from Paperhaus, Maximo Park, and L7, to name a few. Not all are going to make it into rotation, but it's nice to see musicians singing about something other than, well...sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Today the award-winning 480 Minutes show today will feature new songs by Chelsea Wolfe (Los Angeles, CA, @cchelseawolfe), M.A.G.S. (Buffalo, NY, mags_bflo), Mister Heavenly (Los Angeles, CA, @misterheavenly), Paperhaus (Washington, DC, @paperhausmusic), Pom Poms (Los Angeles, CA, @pompomsmusic), Protomartyr (Detroit, MI), Sound of Ceres (Brooklyn, NY, @soundofceres), Strange Ranger (Portland, OR via Bozeman, MT, @strange_rangerr), and Weaves (Toronto, Canada, @weeaves).

For those lucky enough to be going to see The National at Forest Hills Stadium tonight, here's a clip from a 1951 Alfred Hitchcock movie that was filmed there:
This week The Great Rotting Pumpkin pretending to be president who refuses to reveal his tax returns unveiled his big beautiful tax plan, the biggest most beautiful tax plan ever, believe me. Said plan will henceforth be known as "Robin Hood in Reverse." Of obvious note is the attempt to repeal the Estate Tax, which would save millionaires millions and billionaires billions while starving the federal government of those very same millions and billions which pay for education, medicare and health, veteran's benefits, housing and community, international affairs, energy and environment, science, social security, unemployment and labor, transportation, etc. You know, many of the things that keep the poor alive, and that keep the rest of us from being poor. The plan is a stubby middle-finger from the short-fingered vulgarian dotard and his ultra-wealthy cabinet. Ask yourself this -- do you personally know anyone who would benefit from the repeal of this tax? If so, does that person need more money?

Billionaire: economic reason why tax cuts for the rich are so stupid.
TrumpCare, aka WealthCare, aka Repeal And Go Fuck Yourself is back from the dead and worse than ever. It's sponsors are pushing to have it voted into law before the Congressional Budget Office has a chance to assess and report back on the consequences. What could possibly go wrong?
Please, if you live in the U.S. (red state, blue state, purple state, whatever), call your representatives and tell them not to allow a promise based on an obscene disinformation campaign (repeal) take away healthcare of tens of millions of people. Tell them to fix what's wrong with the ACA instead of undermining it. Thank you.
